Looking after your scented candle
To ensure that your candle doesn’t “tunnel”, burn your candle long enough so that the wax melts out to the edge of the candle vessel. This is especially important for the first burn as the candle has a “memory” of how far it can burn.
Another tip to burn your candle as efficiently as possible is to position it way from open outside doors and windows and also to trim the wick to 5 mm before each burn to stop any smoking and spitting on re-light.

Are your candles eco-friendly?
We use eco-friendly packaging, soy wax, wicks and fragrances and essential oils. Our tea light candles are poured into 100% recyclable polycarbonate cups and the remainder of our candles are either poured into recyclable aluminium or glass which you can recycle or re-use. At The Candle Shop, we believe you can have luxury while keeping the planet in mind.

What is so good about essential oils?
Essential oils are extracted directly from plants and have aromatherapeutic properties. They have a range of health benefits from lifting your mood to calming down your nervous system and reducing anxiety.
Steam Distillation is the most popular method used to extract and isolate essential oils from plants. Mechanical extraction is used to extract citrus essential oils.
Our Aromatherapy candles are made out of 100% essential oils.

What kind of wicks and wax do you use?
We use 100% cotton wicks without a zinc core (so better for the environment).
The candle wax is soy wax - phthalate and toxin free. Soy wax is superior to other waxes like paraffin wax which is manufactured out of petroleum. Soy wax candles also burn longer and emit fragrances more effectively.

How fragrant are your candles?
The Candle Shop uses a high percentage of fragrance in its candles - 10% because it believes this is the optimal level for a really good scent throw while not undermining the integrity of the soy wax.
A lot of candle manufacturers reduce the percentage of fragrance as much as possible because it is the most expensive ingredient of a candle. At the Candle Shop we believe we should be giving customers what they want…a strong smelling scented candle - otherwise why bother?

All of our candle collections can be gifted with gift packaging and a personalised hand-written message (or blank upon request).

Can I get my candle delivered on a specified date?
In the central Wellington suburbs we can delivery your candle gift for you on a specified day.
For other areas, we can’t guarantee courier delivery but we can estimate delivery time based on what NZ Couriers specify to us.
In the message box when checking out, state when your preferred delivery date is. We will do our best to get it delivered on that date (or actually on that date in Wellington).
We will send a notification to you when your order has been processed, picked up and then delivered.

What is the difference between fragrance and essential oils?
Fragrance oils are manufactured and synthetic. and are created with a mix of aroma chemicals and natural ingredients like essential oils, extracts, and resins.
Essential oils are made from 100% oils extracted from plants.
Is one better than then other? Essential oils have aromatherapeutic properties and can provide health benefits. Manufactured fragrances can often have stronger aromas and include a wider range of fragrances.
At the end of the day, both oils bring their own benefits by interacting wth your olfactory system to bring back memories and enhance mood.

Protect Your Furniture
Don’t place candles directly on furniture unless it is heat resistant. Coaters are a great option to avoid damage.
Avoid placing candles under shelves - make sure there's at least one metre between a candle and any surface above it.
